IFS-INFORMED Therapy

Internal Family Systems

Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy is a journey inwards to understand and heal your mind. It sees your mind as a system, with different parts that have different feelings, thoughts, and roles.

Your therapist helps you get to know these parts and build a relationship with them. You'll explore the origins of these parts, their concerns, and how they interact.

FAQs

  • IFS-Informed therapy is a term used to describe utilizing IFS therapy techniques learned through consultation, readings, and IFS trainings outside of the IFS Institute. Unless a training is from the IFS Institute, the title of IFS Therapy cannot be used. The IFS Institute trainings are difficult to get into due to a lottery system that takes years to get chosen from.

  • There are 3 levels of training with the IFS Institute. Due to limited availability to get into Level 1 (beginning) IFS trainings, therapists also attend parts work trainings, ego state trainings, and other IFS-informed trainings outside of the institute. Visit the IFS institute to learn more!

  • IFS-informed Therapy is done without you needing to do any preparation. Your therapist may send you home with meditations or journaling homework related to your session.

  • This will vary from person to person. It varies depending on one’s relationship to their body, relationship to each part, and experience with accessing emotions. Your therapist is trained to include grounding skills to help in navigating connection to parts during the process.
